Ida is Tekniksprånget's first economist
It's such small things that point you in the right direction. For Ida, who was studying economics, it was her driver's license that sparked her interest in IT and car safety. Now she will try out the engineering profession with Tekniksprånget.
Ida is Tekniksprånget's first economics student. After getting her driver's license about six months ago, Ida realized how much trust is placed in the car and its functions. This sparked an interest in understanding and contributing to car safety. With that, interest in IT, technology and the engineering profession grew.
"Interest in IT, technology and the engineering profession has grown more and more. It has been both because it is something unknown that I have a lot to learn about and that it is a career that there is a need and place for."
Ida applied to Magna, a global company, because she has always been fascinated by other countries and cultures. She saw the company's global presence as a sign that their work is important, meaningful and in demand.
Andreas Öhlin, group manager at Magna Electronics in Linköping, explains why they wanted to recruit an economist:
"We were actively looking for candidates who we thought would get the most out of being part of Tekniksprånget, while at the same time we wanted a breadth of experience and background at our two internships. Here, Ida stood out with her background in economics and law and that we perceived her as ambitious and responsible."
Ida and her colleague Rasmus will be responsible for a design task that will run throughout the autumn for which they will have their own responsibility. In parallel with that, they will be with Magna's various groups that develop and maintain cameras for the automotive industry, such as optics, electronics and quality analysis, to try out many different engineering professions.
Ida has high expectations for her internship. She hopes it will be educational and fun, and is looking forward to meeting new people and facing new challenges. She also hopes that the internship will give her clarity about what she wants to study at university or what she wants to do after the internship.
"I think the most important thing is that you should be curious and open to learning new things. The purpose of this internship for me is to find new knowledge and learn things both about the industry, and about myself.
Economics together with an engineering education is a very good foundation in professional life, says Andreas Öhlin. Being able to have technical expertise and at the same time understand what drives our profits and how they affect the company is a strength for engineers at all levels of management.
"We believe that Ida, through curiosity and analytical skills, can help us question established ways of thinking, broaden our perspectives and contribute to even better solutions. Through her understanding of cost and economic efficiency, we hope not only for interesting technical solutions, but also, for example, insights into how efficient they are from a production and material point of view," says Andreas Öhlin.
Ida believes that her background as an economics student can contribute with a new perspective, as she is not bound by traditional ways of thinking. She loves problem-solving and is stubborn, which she believes can be useful during the internship.
"I can come up with new or different ways of thinking that come from someone who hasn't learned a certain way of doing something.
